A self-portrait by Andy Warhol is to be auctioned after being forgotten in a cupboard for 40 years.
Cathy Naso was 17 when she got a part-time job as a receptionist at Warhol’s studios in 1965. Two years later he gave her the self-portrait, inscribed to her. Ms Naso briefly displayed the painting, then stored it in a cupboard — where it remained until this year.
It is on display at Sotheby’s New York, and will be sold on November 11 in a batch of contemporary art. It is expected to fetch more than $1 million (£600,000).
